Third Thursday: Lifestyles of the Rich & Roman

Spend your Thursday night at the museum at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art’s monthly Third Thursday celebration. This month, make like Rome’s elite and fashion yourself a toga to wear to the event inspired by the museum’s featured exhibition, Luxury: Treasures of the Roman Empire. Take a turn through the exhibition featuring objects from elaborate gold jewelry to bronze statuettes and finely-wrought silver drinking vessels. Be prepared for a great show from Me Like Bees and DJ Joe that’s sure to get you dancing. You’ll also have the opportunity to decorate your own Roman crown and jewelry as part of a wearable art activity, get draped like a Roman in a majestic photo op, and much more. As always, the happy hour will provide small plates, a full bar and an artful experience.

Ethnic Enrichment Festival

Feel the world beat right here in the heart of America. Experience and learn about different cultures, and celebrate your own at the Ethnic Enrichment Festival going on all this weekend at Swope Park. This event is one of the largest festivals of its kind in the country and features more than 60 different cultures, countries and ethnicities selling their native foods, crafts and performing ethnic music and dances. So try something new, watch the performances and be immersed and surrounded by other cultures as part of the Ethnic Enrichment Commission’s largest fundraiser of the year.

Parkville Days

Also check out the Parkville Days festival, going on all weekend in downtown Parkville. One of Parkville’’s biggest festivals, the annual Parkville Days offers great family entertainment and fun in historic downtown Parkville. This year’’s event offers something for everyone from dozens of art, craft, food and specialty booths. The event also features a carnival, live music including great jazz and blues on the main stage, a parade, a pancake breakfast, pop-up yoga, a 5k run and so much more. The local downtown shops and restaurants will also be hosting their end-of-summer sales and specials Friday and Saturday.

Off-the-Wall Film Series: 10 Things I Hate About You

It’s movie night Friday night at the Kansas City Public Library. Come up to the roof for the latest installment of the Off-The-Wall Film Series. This week’s featured fim is 10 Things I Hate About You. Admission is free, and doors open at 8 p.m. with the screening set to begin at 8:45 p.m. Bring your blankets, folding chairs and favorite snacks. Samples of locally brewed ales and lagers from Kansas City Bier Company will also be availabile. Free parking is available in the Library District parking garage at 10th and Baltimore. In case of bad weather, screenings are moved indoors to Helzberg Auditorium.
