Tee Up at Sinker’s Lounge and See What Turner Construction is Doing for KC
In our second to last episode of The American Dream, Selling Kansas City, Dani Beyer visits the heart of Kansas City – Downtown and the Power and Light District. If you’re one for some good old competitive socializing while drinking a cocktail, Sinker’s Lounge is the spot for you. Sinker’s Lounge is an adult, indoor-mini golf course that also serves craft cocktails. Sinker’s Lounge is located in the Power and Light District, in the heart of downtown Kansas City.
Dani met with Matt Baysinger, Founder of Swell Spark (the operating company doing entertainment concepts, primarily in Kansas City) for a few holes at Sinker’s Lounge. Matt also owns Blade and Timber Axe Throwing in Power and Light along with Breakout KC, an escape room located in River Market. The overall purpose of the Swell Spark companies is to gather people for shared experiences and, mainly, to have fun.
Down the road from Power and Light, Dani visited the Turner Construction Company. Although Turner Construction is a large, international construction company, the Kansas City office is very much focused on Kansas City metro projects. Dani met with two of their female employees to learn more.
Senior Project Manager, Bethany Riley, shared some of her favorite recent projects. The Kansas City Girls Preparatory Academy was a favorite because of the opportunity to make an impact on young girls and their future. Turner Construction also had the privilege of renovating the STEAM labs for Notre Dame de Sion School. They even created a STEM and Marketing summer internship for the school. Bethany is on the board for Crossroads Charter Schools and really values investing in better learning spaces.
Next, Dani met with Christy Turner, Manager of the Special Projects Division. Christy has worked in commercial construction in Kansas City for over 20 years, and it is important to her to work for a company where women have opportunities to lead. Turner Construction it is! Christy has been able to work on some amazing iconic projects like theStarlight Theatre, shops on the Country Club Plaza, and, most recently, the 1400 Baltimore tower downtown, an 18-story building.
We loved the mix of fun and commercial construction/architecture/basically real estate in this episode. Both companies are located in the heart of downtown Kansas City, a great place to visit if you live in KC or you’re just visiting!
We sadly just have one more episode to highlight on this amazing journey we’ve been able to take through our beloved city. As always, if you’re ready to call Kansas City home, we’re happy to join you on your search!
