Great Pumpkin Fest Takes Place During Daylight Hours
It’s Halloween at World’s of Fun, which means two favorite attractions are back for the fall season: Halloween Haunt and the Great Pumpkin Fest. If you like being scared, head to the park after dark for Haunt attractions such as the Skeleton Crew, a high-flying cirque-style show of talented acrobats. Experience the thrills of your favorite rides and the chills of 13 Extreme Haunts as you navigate the fog-filled pathways where over 400 monsters lurk. For the younger crowd, head to Planet Snoopy during the day for the ultimate fall festival – The Great Pumpkin Fest! This family-friendly event is all treats and no tricks and features special Halloween-themed activities for kids such as a pumpkin patch, costume contest and hay bale maze.

Liberty Fall Festival

Fall is in full swing in Liberty this weekend at the annual Fall Festival. As the kids whirl on the carnival rides, parents can sample light-as-air cotton candy or cooling snow cones among other delicious treats from a variety of food vendors. The festival is also a shopper’s delight with everything from handmade crafts to home grown fruits & vegetables. The festival features 175 quality Arts and Crafts booths including original designs in a variety of art such as: textiles, wearable art, hand-crafted ceramics, decorative and functional wood, jewelry, leather, photography, paintings, drawings, prints, and metal work.

Plaza Art Fair

Back for its 86th year, The Plaza Art Fair will encompass nine city blocks and welcome a crowd of over 250,000 this weekend. Featuring 240 artists, the Plaza Art Fair is a top-ranked, national art event with three live music stages and over 25 featured restaurant booths. It continues to be a weekend of people celebrating art and each other, as well as Kansas City’s unofficial welcome to the fall season. The Plaza Art Fair is one of the longest-running and most beloved art events in the nation.

American Indian Cultural Celebration

Finally, on Sunday, head to the Nelson-Atkins Museum as Kansas City celebrates the vibrant cultural and artistic expressions of Native Americans with the American Indian Cultural Celebration. This full day event will feature the Haskell Indian Nations University Dancers, art activities, storytelling, games, and demonstrations. Catch artist demonstrations throughout the day, including a loom work and beading demo from Patricia Nelson (Standing Rock Sioux) and our Ford Learning Center Artist Educator Christine Webster. Play American Indian games like ring and pin and hand game, and join members of the Kansas City Indian Center for Intertribal Round Dances in Kirkwood Hall. And be sure to bring your appetite! There’ll be Native American-inspired cuisine available for purchase.
