Char Bar Smoked Meats & Amusements

4050 Pennsylvania Ave, KCMO

Opening Monday in Westport, this “house of meat” is the fourth concept from Kelpe and Westphal (you may know them as the owners of McCoy’s Public House, The Foundry, and Beer Kitchen). The Char Bar promises to give us Kansas Citians a different take on traditional KC BBQ, offering smokier flavors and char-grilled dishes. Come spring, upcoming additions to the restaurant are scheduled to include the biggest beer garden in the Midwest, outdoor fire pits, adult tire swings, etc.
Menu Items We’re Dying to Try:
Smoked Duck Gumbo, Tabasco-Honey Chicken, Pulled Pork Butt & Black Angus Brisket

JJ’s American Restaurant

900 W. 48th St, KCMO – Kansas City Plaza Vista Building

JJ’s is alive and well, thanks to their new location on the Country Club Plaza. Destroyed by the natural gas explosion in February 2013, the new JJ’s offers yearning customers the cuisine they’re waited for almost two years. Described as a “simple, yet elegant space,” the new JJ’s is reticent of the old locations interior design, complete with Italian tile and warm wood accents. Known for its locally grown ingredients, and 2,000+ wine selection, JJ’s is back and better than ever, opening its doors this past Wednesday. With a patio overlooking the Kansas City skyline, JJ’s is serving up meals perfect for the colder weather we’ve been having, and will be THE place to eat come summer.
Menu Items You Have to Try:
Ahi Tuna (served with JJ’s signature teriyaki, julienne snow peas and shitake mushrooms), and JJ’s Pride (12 ounce center cut filet, porcini mushrooms, served with roasted garlic potatoes, asparagus, and topped with a veal demi-glace)

Opened this past year, The Local Pig’s motto is simple: “We believe in local farms, humanely raised meats, and damn good eating.” With affordable prices and some of the highest quality meats in town, the Local Pig is a sure stop for the holidays!
