WeekEnder: The Parent Trap

End your week on a relaxing note at Crown Center’s summer WeekEnder movie night series, starting this Friday. Enjoy the sounds of local bands, sample your favorite food trucks, shop the wares of local KC artisans, and see a famous flick under the stars. Festivities begin at 6 p.m., with the movie starting at approximately 9 p.m. (Please note pets are not permitted at the event.) The first event will feature music from The Patrick Lentz Band, followed by “The Parent Trap”. This week’s food trucks include Cheesy Pops’ Pizza, Estrella AZUL, Pita for Good, CoffeeCakeKC and Kona Ice along with craft vendors Emerald Thistle and Gotta Have It. Other films showing later this summer include How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, Jurassic World, Back to the Future and more.

First Fridays in the Crossroads Arts District

On the First Friday of every month, thousands of residents and visitors fill the sidewalks of the Crossroads Arts District downtown, enjoying what has become the city’s liveliest and most popular recurring event, especially during summer months. Arts organizations, galleries, studios, and a wide variety of local businesses feature local, regional and national artists as well as live entertainment from 5 to 9 p.m. Wander around the district taking in the sights, grabbing a drink at a local bar or a bite at one of many food trucks or restaurants throughout the area. Tip: try taking the free KC Streetcar to avoid the parking hassle!

Sprint Family Fun Days: Pirate Party

Ahoy, matey! Sprint Family Fun Days continues with a Pirate Parrrty this Saturday on 14th Street between Main & Walnut Streets in the Power & Light District. Explore downtown Kansas City through a treasure find, drum away with Brandon Draper’s Drum Safari, climb your way to the top of the Lost Temple and splash your way through the Super Splash Slide. Activities include live music, bounce houses, games, arts & crafts and more. Admission to the event is FREE. Fees apply for premium activities ($5 all-access wristband per child).

The Teddy Bear Picnic

Celebrate National Teddy Bear Picnic Day this Saturday with a party on the front lawn of the Kansas City Museum. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket, and grab your favorite teddy bear(s) for an afternoon of fun in the park with music, games, crafts and more! No pets are allowed. Featuring music by Janie Next Door, it’s an event that’s sure to be fun for the whole family. There’s no cost to attend and no pre-registration necessary. There will be goody bags for the first 200 kids to arrive!
