As the Star’s last food truck event of the season, you won’t want to miss it! This month’s lineup includes Streetwings, The Moose Truck, Cajun Cabin, CoffeeCakeKC, Plaintain District, Wilma’s Real Good Food, El Tenedor, Beauty of the Bistro, Pie Hole, Boo Yah! and Revel Traveling Bar. Each truck brings it’s own unique flavor, so check the links to view each truck’s menu and more. The event is free to attend, but guests are encouraged to bring donations for Harvesters Food Bank.

Barktoberfest

Take your four-legged friend to an event just for them this Saturday at Shawnee Mission Park’s Theater in the Park for Barktoberfest, hosted by 99.7 The Point. Kansas City’s first every pet and music festival, it’s sure to be a barking good time. With a beer garden and live music line up with a variety of performances spread throughout the day for human entertainment, the event also features dock jumps, boot camp, Weiner dog races and informational vet sessions for your dog to enjoy.

Head to the Country Club Plaza with a chair or a blanket this Saturday evening to cozy up for Barnaby Evan’s internationally-renowned WaterFire art installation. For the 9th season, the event returns to the lighted braziers along Brush Creek to provide a spectacular show for thousands to enjoy from the banks of the creek and the bridges that cross it. Bring a picnic or dine at some of your favorite Plaza restaurants, then head to the creek to enjoy the fire performers and musical accompaniment. Performing groups include: Quixotic, Trio Forte, Rhythmic Flames, StoneLion Puppet Theatre and Djama.

27th Annual Weston Applefest Celebration

Celebrating 27 years, the Applefest celebration in historic downtown Weston is known throughout the Midwest as one of the best fall festivals in Missouri. Come early on Saturday morning to enjoy the parade along Main Street starting at 10:00 am. Throughout both days of the event, there will be a variety of arts and craft booths along downtown Main Street, as well as many unique Weston shops. Weston’s famous apple dumplings, apple pies and cookies will also be available for you to enjoy a quick and tasty bite. Fun children’s activities will be held in the park including pony rides, carnival style games, face painting and pumpkin painting. Free parking is available on the western and northern sides of town. The event is only six blocks from most parking areas, so visitors can easily walk or catch one of the shuttle buses.

2015 American Royal World Series of Barbecue

The American Royal Barbecue began 36 years ago in the parking lot of the Golden Ox Restaurant and has since grown to become the world’s largest event of its kind. This year’s event will take place for the first time at Arrowhead Stadium and brings together world-renowned pit-masters and backyard barbecue enthusiasts to compete for the title of best barbecue.
You won’t want to miss this year’s event going on all weekend and featuring a record-breaking number of teams, making this event by far the world’s largest barbecue competition. In addition to the competition, the 90th Annual American Royal Parade will take place Saturday morning. The enhanced experience at Arrowhead also includes the Cowtown Family Fun Fest on Saturday and over a dozen food vendors in the Budweiser Pavilion throughout the weekend. A live music stage will feature regional bands as well as country music icons, Big & Rich, with a fireworks display ending each night with a bang. Parking at the event is $20. Tickets are available in advance at Ticketmaster and at the gate the day of the event.
