Visit the Kansas City Zoo this weekend with your little ones to see Santa, Mrs. Claus and the elves for Holiday Wild on both Saturday and Sunday. Your kids will have the chance to visit with Santa to tell him what’s on their wish list, so bring your camera to snap a picture. Along with other seasonal activities throughout the day, Santa will take a dive inside the cold weather penguin exhibit at 11 a.m. followed by a penguin waddle at 2 p.m. that’s too cute to miss, so bring your children to the zoo for a day full of holiday family fun. Whoville Holidays
Saturday, December 5
10 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
FREE with a donation to “Help A Who:” three canned goods for Harvesters or a new toy for the Salvation Army.
Dress up as your favorite Whoville character and bring your camera to get a family picture with the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who in their Whoville home located on the north end of City Market this Saturday. Little Whos will enjoy the children’s activity area where they can make Whoville themed tree ornaments, a Grinch mask and other holiday crafts while snacking on apples and candy canes from Apple Market. The Grinch and Cindy Lou Who will be available for photos between 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. While admission is free, you are encouraged to donate to the “Help-a-Who” campaign by bringing either three canned goods for Harvesters or a new, unwrapped toy for The Salvation Army.

Need some inspiration for your holiday home décor? Bring a friend for a festive day at Powell Gardens this Saturday designed to get you and your home ready for the holidays. Get ideas for holiday decorating and gift giving from Powell Gardens’ staff and volunteers, including horticulturist Brent Tucker, who will share ideas for creating festive outdoor containers. And if you’re feeling crafty, you can try your hand at creating a make-and-take project. Stock up on gorgeous poinsettias, hand-crafted wreaths, ornaments and other fun stocking stuffers followed by a performance by the Warrensburg Recorder Consort.

34th Weston Candlelight Homes Tour

Start your holiday season off right with a tour through five historic homes in Weston, Missouri. To celebrate the 34th anniversary of the “Christmas Candlelight Homes Tour”, the downtown street lamps will be a glow with greenery and lights, the streets leading to the tour homes will be lined with luminaries and Weston’s Father Christmas will be on hand to greet visitors. While you’re in town, visit any of the wide array of restaurants, shops, and attractions Weston has to offer. All the homes on the tour are within walking distance from the historic downtown district, so there will be plenty of time for holiday shopping. The Nutcracker

A Kansas City holiday classic, the Nutcracker performed by the Kansas City Ballet returns with shows running at the Kauffman Center through December 24. Prepare to be dazzled by The Nutcracker as you’ve never seen it before. The classic, Victorian-era story has been completely reimagined this year with exquisite costumes, stunning special effects, grand new sets and all-new choreography. See your children’s wonder ignite and feel the glimmer once more as your childhood dreams and memories return. Show run time is approximately two hours and 15 minutes, with one 20-minute intermission. Tickets are available online.
