Summer is finally officially upon us, which means the activities and events scene is heating up all around the Kansas City area. Big Slick Block Party

Head to Prairiefire on Saturday for an event full of KC LOVE and celebrity antics during the Big Slick KC Block Party benefitting the Children’s Mercy Hospital Cancer Center! Prairiefire will be hosting the free Big Slick Block Party on Saturday morning as you watch the celebs hit the Red Carpet in front of Pinstripes at 10 a.m. Festivities include prize giveaways, a street fair with Just for Her pop-up shops, Kona Ice Sno Cones, a KidZone Bounce House, Cos Play, Sister Act face painting and balloons, Fat Brain Toys Unicorn Petting Zoo, a Bounce to the Moon slide, food, drinks and much more. The “After Party” at Pinstripes is also open to the public and starts at around 2:30 p.m. with celebrity bartender Slacker from 101 the Fox.

Maker Faire: Kansas City celebrates the wide variety of unique and exciting things people create themselves, from new technology and electronic gizmos to urban farming and slow-made foods to homemade clothes, quilts and sculptures. This family-friendly event will be going on all weekend at Union Station, and demonstrates what and how people are inventing, making and creating. It brings together Makers, Crafters, Inventors, Hackers, Scientists and Artists for a faire full of fun and inspiration. KC Nanobrew Festival

The KC Nanobrew Festival is the original festival in KC dedicated to local home brewing and giving the public a chance to see all the amazing brewing talent we have in our community. So spend your Saturday afternoon at the Berkley Riverfront Park at the festival’s 8th annual event tasting all Kansas City’s home brewers have to offer. Admission includes unlimited tastings from over 200 unique home brewed beers, a full-size souvenir glass, food, and entertainment.

Westport Beer Festival

For more beer, Beer KC and Sporting Kansas City present the Seventh Annual Westport Beer Festival, a tribute to craft beers, on Saturday night. This event returns to historic Westport on Pennsylvania Ave. in front of McCoy’s Public House and is a benefit to AIDS Walk Kansas City. The Westport Beer Festival will feature over 80 beers from more than 35 breweries and will include several local craft distilleries. Guests will sample some of the worlds best brews, spirits, and fabulous food while having the opportunity to mingle with brewmasters from each participating brewery and distillery. In addition, festival goers will have the opportunity to meet members from this year’s Sporting Kansas City team. Each ticket is good for entry into the festival and a commemorative tasting glass.
