The Fourth of July is here and with it a variety of fireworks shows and summer fun for you to enjoy with your friends and family. Below are just a few of the great holiday events going on around the greater Kansas City area, but for a complete list, check here.

Bring the entire family for a taste of good old-fashioned Americana! Parkville’s weekend-long traditional salute to Independence Day starts Thursday, and carries through to Tuesday, festivities include pancakes for breakfast, a community parade, carnival rides, lots of food, fun, games, shopping, music and, of course, a fabulous fireworks finale. The annual Parkville July 4th Celebration parade will be on Tuesday, July 4 at 10:00 a.m., starting at 63rd Street and Hwy 9 and ending in Historic Downtown Parkville. The finale will kick off with the Falcon SkyDiving Exhibition at 8:45 p.m. in Platte Landing Park, followed by fireworks.

Booms & Blooms at Powell Gardens

On Saturday, be sure to check out another celebration of our nation’s independence with explosions of color and texture on land and in the air at Powell Garden’s annual event. Tour the new exhibition Gardens of Myth, cool off in the Fountain Garden, enjoy hands-on activities and then find your favorite spot on the lawn and spread your blanket to enjoy the musical stylings of the Lee’s Summit Symphony and the wares of various vendors as you wait for the show. Fireworks will begin at 9:00 p.m. (Rain Date: Sunday, July 2)

Overland Park Star Spangled Spectacular

If you’re on the Kansas side, spend your Fourth of July at Overland Park’s show at Corporate Woods. Enjoy an evening of music, food and live musical performances, and cap it all off with one of the the largest fireworks event in the Kansas City metro. The City of Overland Park, Corporate Woods and the Overland Park Rotary Club invite you to join in for an evening packed with fun. Fireworks will begin around 9:30-45 p.m. In case of rain, the rain date is Wednesday, July 5, and there will be fireworks ONLY, same time/place.

KC Riverfest

For those closer to downtown, KC RiverFest is the premiere Independence Day event to attend in the region. Since 2005, KC RiverFest has been organized by Friends of the River, who work hard to make it a celebration of the Missouri River and the organizations that work to make the Kansas City Riverfront a special place for all to enjoy. Gaze up at one of the LARGEST fireworks shows in the Midwest, and fill the rest of your evening with two stages of music, kids activities, tons of food vendors and more.
