You don’t have to be a world class runner to participate, The Color Run is a 5k, un-timed race in which participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer along the way. Wear white to the starting line and finish plastered in color! At The Color Run, the start line is its own pre-race party with music, dancing, warmup stretching and giveaways. With registration, runners receive a custom race shirt and over the shoulder bag, tattoo, bag of color, race bib, sweat band and other sponsor goodies.

And if mom is more interested in the fine arts, the Rite of Spring ballet is opening this weekend at the Kauffman Center, with shows on Friday & Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Rite of Springs is a bold and daring expression not of a reverence of nature, but instead of the dire consequences of turning one’s back on it. This mixed-repertory program includes Helen Pickett’s Petal, Yuri Possokhov’s Diving into the Lilacs, and a world premiere by Viktor Plotnikov who is known for his contemporary and intense aesthetic. All of the music will be performed by the Kansas City Symphony.
